Murder Investigation Clarifications
Hey guys, we'd like to quickly clarify some things about murder investigation/future murder investigations! Since there was some confusion last time, we hope to highlight a couple of key points that will help everything run as smoothly as possible in the future.
We know investigations can be pretty hectic, especially the first time around. We love the enthusiasm but we'd like to ask everyone to please remember to be courteous. However, as great as the interest in finding the body was, these things only work if we do them as orderly as possible. Skipping around threads and moving around can make it difficult to streamline discoveries so we ask you to keep such things to a minimum! There can certainly be more than three people looking around, but we ask you do it in the same thread from the start when possible! Obviously, if the body is difficult to locate it's fine to spread feelers out but in general we will give you an idea of where to start.
Once a figure is found and one character asks for clarification on its identity, we'd like to ask you to please be patient and wait for a mod comment before proceeding. We're excited to get down to brass tacks and get all the information out to you too, but we need time to write up discoveries and the best way to do that is if we minimize how many people are asking for information during the body discovery itself. Once it's out, please feel free to react and chatter away! We encourage it.
Additionally, if you're planning on investigating please make sure you're able to make it to the trial on time so you can turn in evidence as soon as possible. For the first trial the Sage will submit evidence for you, but in the future characters will have to submit/bring it themselves and characters will need to discuss evidence they discovered because evidence osmosis will not be a thing beyond the first trial. It may also be a good idea to bring items or weapons you find as you never know if they'll be relevant.
However, per a new rule, any attempts to purposely sabotage or hold back evidence in order to exonerate/make a character look guilty or innocent will result in punishment.
As far as body investigations go, generally it's faster to let characters who have medical knowledge or experience with crime scenes/investigations look over a body rather handing it off midthread or leaving it to a character that's less knowledgeable. That's not to say it's discouraged, but it helps move things along! ICly they may be able to provide more information on the body than another character as well, which is something to definitely keep in mind!
It might be best to also keep reactions to the body discovery part of investigations not top levels. What can help in keeping things organized is limiting conversations during investigation threads until the area's clear. Afterwards, discussion can happen. It's not really mandatory or anything, just a suggestion.
Also, for clarification's sake--we know we've mentioned that there will be top levels directing to where evidence is, but we want to add that within the comment there will be a number indicating how much evidence is in a given area following the body announcement. Links to the evidence will be edited into the comment after the investigation is concluded so you guys can easily review it!
We'd like to remind everyone that voting is mandatory. However, we're allowing one pass for any stragglers this one time around.
We also have an additional announcement, independent of clarifications. We would like to introduce
somagic as an official member of our mod team, as of today! She has been assisting us with a few of coding things on the side, but now she's going to be tackling coding tasks and a few finer things so that we have all our ducks in a row, as it were.
On a separate note, we would also like to remind for lore/setting investigations to be kept to the beginning of the week and one location per character.
That's all for now, but as always, if anyone has any questions/things they wish to be clarified, please feel free to ask.
